Aligning center, attention and expression
Published on October 17, 2025Let’s consider:
One’s own centre
The trajectory of that centre
The relationship between one’s attention and one’s centre
The relationship between one’s centre, attention and expression
For example:
Imagine my centre as the Earth’s core, orbiting the Sun.
In that case, even if my attention were directed towards another star in another galaxy, it wouldn’t prevent my centre from continuing along its own orbit.
So, if my centre is where it is, following its own forces within a balance greater than myself — whether my attention strays from it or not — what difference does it make? What impact does it have if my attention is, or isn’t, directed towards my centre?
The quality of my alignment.
If my centre is on planet Earth but my gaze is constantly fixed upon the star R136a1 in the Tarantula Nebula, within the LMC, how can I truly express myself from my centre?
My centre remains where it is, independent of both my attention and my expression.
So, there is always a line connecting the three.
And so the real question becomes:
Is there a kind of alignment that feels more alive to me than another?
THE PRACTICE
I’d like to suggest a little game.
Choose one object to represent your centre,
one to represent your attention,
and one to represent your expression.
Place each object in a different spot around the room.
Follow your instinct.
Once they’re in place, stand on or beside the object representing your centre.
Then walk towards the one representing your attention,
then the one representing your expression,
and finally return.
Play with this pathway, feel it — in one direction and then the other.
Bring your awareness to the journey itself.
If you wish, you may rearrange the objects representing attention and expression, but leave the centre where it is.
Then put everything away and forget about the exercise.
The moment has passed.
Awareness has shifted.
Wherever you are, whatever balance or alignment you perceive — it is what it is, at this very moment.
And it’s already in motion.
Breathe…
